This is a 19th century Italian desk magnifier with a concealed letter opener hidden in the handle. It is made of brass/bronze with a wooden handle. It measures approximately 10″(l) x 2″(w) and is in good used condition. There is a “Made in Italy” steel tag riveted to the base. The optics seem clean and unscratched, the brass/bronze show little wear and are nicely patinated, the wooden handle has some marks but is solid and intact, it works perfectly and the letter opener screws and fits tightly. This would make a wonderfully useful and tactile object on any desk and is heavy enough to have double-duty as a paperweight.
