Here is a vintage brass floor-standing vigil lamp which takes a tea light or olive oil and wick to produce a muted red glow through ruby glass. Vigil lamps are usually lit using a small candle, tea light or olive oil as the fuel feeding a floating wick. The vessel holding the oil is a cup made of heat treated glass which is height adjustable about 3 inches using three knurled brass knobs. Vigil lamps are used in churches, chapels and by the faithful in their homes so that the lamp is in front of the lower half of the icon. This measures an impressive 54″(h) x 11″(w) and is in fair condition with some wear and patination on the brass, the glass is in good and undamaged condition.
