This is your ideal Oktoberfest kit comprising a lot of three vintage beer steins by Reinhold Merkelbach of Westerwald Germany. All are in good condition with no discernable chips, cracks, dings or repairs, and we have tested them with liquid and they do not leak. The hinges holding the tops are not loose and work well.
ABOUT REINHOLD MERKELBACH
The firm of Reinhold Merkelbach began producing beer steins and related wares in 1882 in the Westerwald town of Höhr, and is perhaps best remembered today for its contributions to the region’s Jugenstil (Art Nouveau) period beginning in the early 20th century. In 1913, a victim of declining sales, Merkelbach joined with several others in the short-lived marketing consortium known as Steinzeugwerke, but following WWI was again functioning on its own. Though managing to survive the economic upheaval of two World Wars and several post-war recessions, as well a takeover by W. Goebel Porzellanfabrik & Co. for a short period in the 1980s, the firm which ultimately traded as Manufaktur Merkelbach GmbH, finally succumbed to increasingly difficult market conditions, terminating operations in the year 2007.
