This is an original hand-colored 1867 map of Maine by Augustus Mitchell from the venerable Mitchell atlas, one of the most attractive atlases produced in the 19th century. Keep in mind that all the colored lines and filled-in color were painstakingly done by hand. The text at the bottom states “Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1867 by S. Augustus Mitchell, Jr. in the Clerks Office of the District Court of the U.S. for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania”. Actual map size approximately 14″ x 12″ (22″ x 19″ framed), beautifully professionally framed and ready to hang. Both map and frame are in good condition, however buyers should be aware that this item came to us from a South Florida estate so is pre-owned and may show signs of normal wear and use.
